Click hereDebbie and John were there as I entered the Ferguson home. Everyone was leaving for New Orleans on the 28th. Everyone said, "Merry Christmas," as I entered the room. For the first time Debbie sensed something was wrong as I had hid my emotions, but I was now 21 days late—reality had finally set in—I was pregnant.
Not even John was aware what was going on.
I said, "Debbie, you and Sally got a minute?"
Debbie said, "Sure."
I said, "Let's go upstairs."
Debbie and Sally knew something was wrong—very wrong.
I started telling them, but broke down and started crying. Sally grabbed me and hugged me saying, "It's OK, baby Sis, big Sis is here."
I said, "I'm pregnant. I'm three weeks late."
Debbie cried, "No. It can't be," as she hugged me.
I cried, "It is."
Sally said, "What are you all doing to do?"
I said, "Get married after basketball season—I'll only be 3-1/2 months and not showing that much."
"Tom knows people that'll take care of us, and I'll keep my scholarship since I can get a medical redshirt. We'll have our baby and I'll just go to class while Tom plays football."
I said, "We'll make it."
Sally and Debbie began crying and held me tight.
I cried, "Quite the ending for us—I was a virgin, never touched by anyone, never even French kissed a guy, and now seven months later I'm pregnant, and my whole life has turned upside down."
