True Love Never Goes Away Ch. 14-15

Paul didn't know what to say, so he just took a swig of his beer. Jason nodded. "I felt so horrible about everything that I tried over-compensating for it. I brought her flowers every day for nearly six months before she finally convinced me that she didn't blame me and that me being around made up for missing almost her entire pregnancy," Jason said. He laughed as he remembered the number of flowers scattered room to room throughout the house. "I still feel bad a lot of the times. When Mel was pregnant with the twins, I was a ball of nerves. Every time Mel was sick because of morning sickness, or had a cold, or didn't seem to be gaining enough weight, I was calling my dad," Jason said, laughing at himself. "I drove Mel crazy," he added, finishing the beer and opening another one. Paul laughed.

"I'm terrified," Paul admitted. Jason nodded. "I'd be worried if you weren't," Jason told Paul.

"I can't believe what an ass I was when Leigh got pregnant three years ago," Paul said.

Jason laughed and shrugged. "You were young, you both made mistakes and you have to pay for them. But don't let those mistakes stop you from living," Jason said. Paul took a deep breath and accepted the beer Jason offered him.

"I don't know what to do. Part of me wants the baby, but part of me is telling me to run far away and very fast," Paul admitted.

Jason laughed and nodded. "I hear you on that one. Do you love Leigh?" Jason asked suddenly. Paul nodded. "More than I ever thought possible," Paul answered. Jason smiled. "Remember that. When you start to panic at the thought of having a baby, remember that it is your love for Leigh and her love for you that created that baby. That's all kids are, extensions of your love for each other," Jason told Paul. Jason finished off his beer and checked his watch. "We'd better go make sure the girls haven't gone too crazy over Patrick Swayze," Jason said, standing up and stretching. Paul stood up and followed Jason into the house and groaned when he heard the giggling coming from the den. "What in the world is going on in here?" Jason wondered aloud, coming to a stop in the doorway.

Melanie looked up and giggled. Julie and Leigh glanced at each other and tried not to laugh. "We were just discussing if it would be possible to learn that kind of dancing in such a short amount of time," Melanie said, taking a sip of water.

"And how much fun it would be to learn how from Patrick Swayze," Julie added making Melanie laugh, causing water to shoot out of her mouth and all down the front of her blouse. The girls started giggling again and Jason shook his head. "You girls enjoy your estrogen rush, Paul and I are going to go shoot some pool," Jason said. Paul hesitated in the doorway. "You sure we should go? What if something comes up?" he asked.

Jason shook his head and shot a knowing grin at Melanie over Paul's head. Melanie grinned evilly. "Uh-oh," Jason said under his breath. Melanie looked at her sister. "Hey Leigh, when did they say you were due?" Melanie wanted to know.

Leigh looked at the paper the doctor had given her. "The end of August," Leigh answered. Melanie grinned and grabbed a pad of paper and a pen. "Let's plan your baby shower," Melanie said. Jason groaned.

"We have our cell phones, call us if you need something," Jason told the girls, grabbing Paul by the arm and dragging him towards the car. "Trust me, they're fine," Jason told Paul.
