Cullen had been sitting propped against the tree for a good half hour, wondering when Angel would wake up. He didn't really know what to think about all of this. For being a werewolf and finding a true mate is one of the most important things ever. But for some reason this only made Cullen even more confused. He was never one to believe in love—heck his own father never showed him what love is and his mother died right after giving birth to him—so what did he really know about love? He accepted a while back that he would never have a mate of his own, and that was fine with him. Now with Angel in his arms, he had absolutely no clue how to even proceed with all of this. It seemed that when Angel was near him, he began to feel the first stirring of feelings towards her. Though when she wasn't around, it seemed like he began to close all emotions off and revert back to how he was prior to finding Angel. Going back and forth like that was exceptionally tiresome.

Cullen began to stroke Angel's hair softly away from her face. He couldn't take his eyes off of her for one moment. He couldn't help but think, how can one small person like this, change my world completely upside down? He knew that he would never be able to let her go, even though they would be fighting every step of the way. Cullen was able to hear his phone vibrating where it lay near the pile of his clothes—probably Gavin calling wondering what happened. Shaking his head, he slowly leaned his head back against the tree, closing his eyes. In no time, he fell asleep, for once truly at peace, knowing he finally had his mate.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Angel began to slowly open her eyes, trying to remember what happened. She couldn't help but think, Why on earth am I lying on the ground? Then she finally noticed the strong pair of arms wrapped around her, holding her tightly. She lay quietly for a while, enjoying this simple sensation of being held, almost as if she was cared for deeply by Cullen. Not knowing why that even mattered to her, as she barely even knew him, there was no way she was going to let this moment pass.

Angel couldn't help but think of her childhood now.

She didn't really have the great childhood that everyone else did.

Unfortunately, Angel had to grow up fast. Her father was a short tempered, stubborn, physically and emotionally abusive. Now add being drunk into that, and things got even worse. Even though Isobel is technically older than Angel by just a minute—yes twins—Angel was the one that always tried to take care of everyone. One particular memory was of when Angel and Isobel were just 6 years old and their parents were having another fight as always. Angel and Isobel both went to Donny's room and pulled one of those kid tables near his crib and climbed in—trying to protect Donny from having to hear the fighting. Even though Donny was only a year old at the time, both Isabel and Angel didn't want Donny to remember the fighting if they could do anything about it.

Many always say, that many people don't remember what happened when they were really young. Sadly, Angel and Isobel remember everything due to all the fighting. They will never be able to forget any of the fights and they will both remember every single bruise they saw on their mother when their dad would hit her. One evening, when both Angel and Isobel were about 12 years old, was the defining moment when Angel began to fight for others, no matter what the odds.

On this particular evening, her parents were fighting—as usual—but it soon became one of the worst fights ever. Angel's father suddenly covered her mother's mouth and nose—making it impossible for her to breathe. Angel was screaming and screaming at her father to stop and when he didn't, Angel finally took action. She first tried to get in between her mother and father, to push him away from her mother. When that didn't work, she climbed the dresser that was next to him, and jumped upon his back, where she pulled his hair, and clawed his face. He finally let go, when Angel managed to give him a pretty good cut near his one eye. That's when he pushed her off, and left the room. Angel got up right away and called the police. When the police came to arrest her father, Angel was standing on top of the staircase staring down at her father, letting him know through the defiance in her eyes and stance that this would never happen again...that she would always be there to protect the ones she loved, even if it meant fighting him to the end.

Shaking her head, Angel opened her eyes, refusing to think back on all the memories. She looked up at Cullen, seeing how at peace he seemed to be. When he was awake, he always seemed so uptight and just very unapproachable. But now, she was able to really study him. He had beautiful dark hair that was a bit longer than was the norm today, and knowing first hand when he is awake, he had the most amazing intense eyes ever. Every woman must envy him for having just steely grey eyes that seemed to pierce someone right to their soul. Angel couldn't help but shudder wantonly at the memory of how Cullen looked at her that day in the hospital when he kissed her.

Angel couldn't help but stare at his lips now. They were the most perfect lips a man could ever have, that were simply made for kissing—and for other things—but she couldn't let her mind wander off to those forbidden thoughts. Taking a deep breath, Angel decided to slowly try and get up. But every time she would move, Cullen tightened his hold on her. Finally getting a bit frustrated, Angel reached up and poked him hard a couple of times in the chest.

Cullen opened his eyes right away and without thinking, tightened his hold on Angel even more, in case of any danger.

"Ooof! Cullen, loosen up your hold on me! You're squeezing too tightly!" Angel, tried to scream out to him; but was finding it a bit hard, since she couldn't get enough air into her lungs.

Cullen, realizing what he was doing, let go of Angel right away, then helped her to sit up. "Sorry about that. Maybe next time you shouldn't be poking a werewolf like that when he is sleeping." Cullen stated, looking at Angel, not really sure how she would react.

Angel couldn't help but open her eyes wide at the word. Werewolf! How could she have forgotten about that BIG detail? Angel moved away from Cullen immediately, putting some distance between them. She turned to face him. "So... you're...you're a..." not being able to complete it, as it was so hard for her to actually say it.

Lifting his one eyebrow up at her, Cullen finished for her, "Werewolf?"

"Yes...werewolf."

They both sat there quietly, no one saying anything for a good few minutes.

Taking a deep breath, Angel refused to be scared. If he really wanted to kill her, wouldn't he have done it while she was passed out? Or for that matter, when she ditched him? Alright Angel, just breathe, and take this one step at a time.

"Angel...maybe I shouldn't have told you, seeing how scared you ar..."

"I'm not scared!" Angel stated firmly. "I was... letting all this process through in my mind." Angel said, trying to cover up.

"Well, if passing out doesn't show how scared you were, then I don't know what else does," said Cullen, as he slowly started to get up from the ground and walk towards where his clothes were.

Lifting her head stubbornly, Angel said, "It was just a shock. Besides, it was a long day, so I was...umm...decided for a quick nap."

Turning around swiftly, Cullen stared at Angel, not believing what he had just heard. "Decided...for a quick nap?" As Cullen saw Angel nod, he just busted out laughing. For not laughing in a long time, Cullen felt a stomach cramp beginning, from laughing so hard.

Angel stood up, placing her hands on her hips. "And what is so freaking funny Cullen?"

"Angel, as funny as that was, please don't be absurd. You were scared, and you passed out. Deal with it." Cullen began putting on his clothes while keeping his back towards her. He didn't mind being naked, but he didn't want Angel to see just how much he wanted her at this very moment. She really does have spunk, he can give her that much.

"Yeah, well, at least I didn't run away or scream!" Angel shouted slightly, getting really frustrated. It was one thing to know she was afraid at first, but to rub it in her face? Don't think so!! "Besides, does it look like I'm afraid of you Cullen? And if you keep this up, I have no problem proving to you how I still feel like kicking your arrogant ass!"

"Ok, ok, settle down Angel, before you hurt yourself." Cullen lifted his one hand up, when he saw her ready to make a comment. "Now that you´ve gotten over your...shock...there is something more I need to tell you."

Nodding her head, Angel walked over to the log and sat down. Waiting for him to continue with whatever else he had to say. Obviously there was a reason why he told her about being a werewolf.

"This is not easy for me to say Angel. Actually, I don't even know how you're going to handle this, since I am trying to sort this out myself."

"Ugh, Cullen, seriously?! You're going to take this long to explain again? Just freaking out with it! And stop beating around the bush," said Angel.

Looking at her, Cullen tried to take a deep breath. "You really need to learn not to interrupt me like that." Cullen stated firmly. Every time he spoke with anyone, every single person always paid attention to anything that came out of his mouth.

"And you really need to grow some damn balls Cullen. Just say what the hell you have to say and be done about it. You know, I do have to be up early tomorrow morning for work!"

Taking another calming breath, he had to rein in his wolf. Cullen couldn't wait till when they mated so that he would be able to show her who is the dominant one and in the end the boss. "There is a reason why I told you my secret..."

"Obviously," Angel said, interrupting Cullen again.

Growling. Cullen shot Angel a dirty look, feeling his temper rising slowly. He began pacing, knowing that he had to get his wolf under control before telling her that she is his mate.

Angel sat there, folding her arms across her chest, getting really impatient with all this waiting. Rolling her eyes, she really felt like smacking him upside his head. Perhaps he really needs to take some kind of anger management course because he seriously has issues.

Finally, getting his wolf under control, Cullen turned to Angel. "What I was trying to say, before I was interrupted by someone, that there is a very important reason why I had to tell you about me being a werewolf. Since there is no easy way of saying it, I will have to be straight forward and tell you it like that." Taking a deep breath, Cullen couldn't help but worry slightly how she would react to this bit of news. It was one thing to finally accept that werewolves were actually real, but it was another thing to know that you're going to be tied down to a perfect stranger for the rest of your life. "Earlier, I was telling you about this pull that we both feel. And the reason we both feel this pull, is because...you are my mate."

"Your what?" Angel looked up at Cullen, for once speechless, and slightly confused.

"You are my mate, Angel. Every werewolf has but one true mate." Cullen stated carefully.

Taking a moment to digest this bit of news, Angel sat there quietly. "Ok, so... this is supposed to mean something to me...right?"

Cullen nodded his head. "In the simplest way I could describe it to you, is that you and I were made for one another. I will not be complete until I mate with you and this is vise versa with you."

Angel just sat there dumbstruck. She had no idea what to say...where would she even begin? Mate? As in soul mate? How can we belong to each other, when the hell we can't seem to have a freaking civil conversation for 5 minutes without one of us getting upset or frustrated. Angel shook her head slightly, trying to clear some of the thoughts.

"Angel, we are not what you know as soul mates." Cullen stated clearly, almost figuring out her thought of process. "Soul mates don't even come close to the connection that is felt between true mates when they are mated."

"Whoa whoa Cullen. From the way you are describing it, it sounds as if we are going to be married." Standing up, Angel began to pace herself.

"If you would like to think of it that way, then yes, we would technically get married so that the human world wouldn't ask too many questions."

"Say what?!" Angel stopped, and turned toward Cullen. "There is no way I am marrying you! I don't even freaking know you! And we can't even get along, so how the fuck do you plan on being together. No...No. You made a mistake. I am not your...your mate!"

Getting slightly aggravated, "Yes you are my mate. And there is nothing you can do to change it. Do you honestly think I like this? I was just as shocked as you are! Believe me, the last thing I ever planned on doing is mating, and now it seems like I have no choice!" Cullen couldn't help but yell back at Angel. Even though he would never admit to it, but he was slightly hurt with Angel denying that she was his mate and refusing to marry him—so the best way to cover it up was to get angry and hurt her back!

Angel couldn't help but flinch and take a few steps back from what Cullen said. Not knowing why, she was actually hurt by what he said. She looked at him with her eyes getting slightly watery. Refusing to show him how much that hurt, she turned that back towards anger. Cullen, saw that what he said, had hurt Angel, and was about to comfort her, when all the sudden that hurt vanished and was replaced with anger. If looks could really kill, Cullen would have been dead right about now. "Good! I'm glad we got this settled," Angel stated firmly, walking towards where Cullen's car was parked.

"Angel where are you going?" asked Cullen, while he started to go after her.

"Obviously to the damn car!"

Cullen grabbed a hold of Angel's arm, spinning her around to face him. "We are not through with our conversation."

Angel looked deadly straight into Cullen's eyes. "Oh yes we are Cullen. We are completely through...with this conversation." Narrowing her eyes, she continued, "Now, are you going to drive me back to my damn car, or will I need to call someone?"

Cullen, seeing that there was no way of changing her mind finally relented and let go of her arm. Maybe she just needed some time to cool off. They both said a few things that they didn't mean. He began walking towards his car, knowing that Angel was following him. Once they both got in his car, he drove out of the parking lot, and towards Angel's school. The whole car ride was spent in complete silence. Cullen was able to feel the anger radiating off of Angel and knew he should probably say something, but nothing was coming to his mind. When Cullen pulled into the school's parking lot, right next to Angel's car, she was just about to jump right out of the car, when he stopped her. Cullen reached over, and grabbed Angel's phone. He then saved his number into her phone, and called his number on her phone, so that he would be able to save her number on his phone.

Angel just stared at him, while he was doing all this. There was nothing more for them to say to each other and she wasn't going to waste another breath on him. This was the last time that she would ever see Cullen, and that was that.

"My number is saved in your phone. Now if you need anything from me, or just talk, you can call me anytime, day or night." Cullen said quietly, while handing Angel back her phone. Angel didn't even bother answering Cullen. As she was about to step out of the car, Cullen grabbed a hold of her hand. "One more thing Angel. We will continue this conversation. It's not even close to being done."

Angel just pulled her hand out of his grasp, and got out of the car, slamming the door shut. That's what he thinks! She walked fast to her car, and got in. Once she got herself situated, she turned on the car, and switched it to drive, and took off fast, hearing her tires screeching. She looked back in her rear-view mirror at Cullen's car. This was the last time you hurt me. Goodbye Cullen...forever.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

After Angel had time to herself after driving off, she finally pulled into her driveway. As she shut off the car, she looked at the time, knowing her mom might be a bit upset. Taking a deep breath, she looked in the mirror to make sure that there were no visible traces of tears left. Gathering her stuff, she got out of her car, and walked to the side entrance. Once in, she turned and dead bolted the door, feeling a sense of safety. As she placed her purse and backpack on the couch, she heard her mom calling for her, asking what took so long. Angel just responded, "we all lost track of the time, sorry mom. It won't happen again." Her mom letting it go, Angel began to walk upstairs to her bedroom. She just wanted to be left alone and just go to bed—since she had to be up in about five hours for work. "At least tomorrow I don't have any classes" she thought.

As Angel walked to her bedroom, she saw her sister sitting in her own bed reading something on her computer.

"So...what took you so long butt-munch?" asked Isobel.

"Like I said to mom, we just lost track of time." Angel tried to state again, trying to make it believable. But lying to her sister...her twin sister, just felt so wrong. They never kept anything from one another! They told each other everything and even though they did have their sisterly fights every other day, they never stayed mad at one another for too long. Within an hour or so, when they both calmed down, they would just begin to laugh about it all.

"Ok, well that's what you told mom. Now do you want to cut the bullshit and tell me the truth dipshit?"

Angel couldn't help but smile at how she and her sister always bantered with one another. "Ok fuck-face, I will tell you, but you have to keep it down low. No one can ever know that I told you this."

Isobel just nodded her head in agreement. Of course Isobel wouldn't ever tell anyone anything. Angel began to tell Isobel everything that happened yesterday and today. Even to the point of telling her about Cullen being a werewolf.

"Whoa whoa whoa. I have two questions for you Angel. First, what the hell have you been smoking? And secondly, do you have any left?" Isobel said jokingly.

"I'm serious Isa. I saw him change right before my eyes. I never would have even believed it if I didn't see it with my very own eyes. Even now it is hard to believe it. And now, he was beginning to tell me that I am his.... Mate! How do you believe that?"

Smiling, Isobel said, "Well, that is a bit weird, but does he really believe in it? You know that we´ve both seen enough movies and read enough books about these Sci-Fi creatures to know that being the mate of a werewolf is something you don't mess around with. Before you say anything, maybe you should give him another chance."

"A what? You know exactly what he said to me. How can you even think that I would willingly give him another chance?"

Isobel smiled knowingly. She knew the way Angel worked. Angel has been hurt many times before and always was let down. It took a while for Angel to trust someone and then finally allowing them into her heart. "Well once you stop being so freaking stubborn and get over it, you might be able to think a few things through. Hey! I'm not telling you to go and get married," Isobel started to laugh slightly, "I'm not ready to be an aunt! But maybe in time, you two will be able to get along a bit better? Come on dick-head, you have plenty of years to decide if you want to get hitched with the guy or not. Besides," Isobel looked meaningfully at Angel, "I'm sure you were not the only one that got hurt tonight."
