"By the way, thank you for the picnic." I said to her.

"You're welcome. So you're not leaving? I won't wake up in the morning and you and your family be gone?"

"They may go but I will stay until you no longer want me."

"I don't see that happening soon."

"So you really aren't bothered by what I am?" I asked.

"So you turn furry and have a tail. No one is perfect." She looked up at me with a smile.

I kissed her lips quickly and turned my attention back towards the road. We reached her house still too quickly for me. Her dad's truck was in the spot we parked her car and a new car was in the driveway. She perked up and I could hear her cursing under her breath.

She got out of the truck quickly and her dad was under the new car's hood checking the oil level.

"How could you?" She said.

"Honey, you needed a new car. You were spending way too much money fixing that piece of crap." Her dad said.

She stomped into the house and I went over to her father. "Need any help?" I asked.

"Could you hand me a quart of oil just on the inside of the garage?" He asked.

"Sure." I said and went ducked under the halfway open garage door. I chuckled when I saw her car. I went back outside with a grin on my face.

"Don't tell her. She never goes in there and this is just a rental until I can get a new motor for it entirely."

"My lips are sealed." I said and handed him the oil.

"I want to get this done by her birthday but just in case she does happen to go in the garage for some reason I want a place to hide it."

"My garage is free." I offered.

"If it's not too much trouble for you."

"Not at all." I told him.

"You're a good kid, I can see that. But I can also see she is falling and fast for you. If you leave her I want you to leave town. It would hurt her too much seeing you on a daily basis."

"Like I told her, I'll stay here as long as she wants me."

He looked at me while he closed the hood. He reached out his hand and I shook it.

"Once she's asleep we'll get it to your place. Daniel is going to bring his tow truck. Maybe you can go in there and calm her down?"

"I'll try." I said and he let go of my hand. It was a firm shake. Not a test of power, who was the bigger man, just a friendly gesture.

I walked inside and Jade was sitting on the couch watching TV. It was the news. Did no one down south watch anything else? Just the weather and news? She flipped through the channels and finally gave up and turned it off. I could feel the anger coming off of her in waves.

"Hey love, I'm going to go check up on my brother and sister, do you want to come?" I asked.

"I thought they hated me." She said bitterly.

"They can get over themselves." I said.

"I'm going to go change really quick." She said and went to her room.

"All right." I said as she got up.

Her father came in and she shot him an evil glare. She walked into her room and closed the door.

"You've got your work cut out for you." He said with a grin. "You sure you want her?"

"With all that I am." I answered.

"Hmph." He just said and went to the kitchen.

Five minutes later Jade came out with her hair in a ponytail and jeans and a tank top that hugged her figure nicely. I got up and followed her out the door.

My house was empty when I got there. Maribel's truck was gone. So were her clothes and precious belongings along with Solomon's.

"They left because you showed me?" She asked.

"Perhaps, they're mad now but they will be back. They always come back."

"You've done this before?"

"No but I have pissed them off to the point they leave." I told her.

"You have a temper." It wasn't a question.

"Yes." I said anyways.

"So do I." she said.

"So which room is yours?"

I led her up the stairs to the only room at the top. It was also the smallest. Maribel always got the largest room and Solomon and I flipped a coin for the next biggest. I lost this time. It wasn't small enough I couldn't fit all of my things in there. I still had plenty of room. It was a large house. I still had room to fit a small couch in there and still have walking space.

She sat on the bed that I had made up during the fight with Maribel and Solomon. All the furniture was new. We never took anything with us if we left except our clothes and what we held dear to us. After 105 years of being what I am one learns how to save money, know the trends in the stock market. I never had to work if I didn't want to. But being cooped up in the house all day really got on my nerves.

I laid down on the bed and she moved on top of me. I put my hands on her hips and she rocked back and forth giving me a hint.

"Are you sure you still feel the same about me?" I asked.

"If I didn't I think I would have run away screaming. It's not every day that someone turns into a werewolf in front of me." She smiled.

I sat up and kissed her roughly. My hands ran up her spine and she shivered deliciously. I moved my lips to her neck and bit down hard enough to leave a mark. She cried out and her nails dug into my back. That was all it took. I lifted her shirt over her head and she took the bra off in haste while I took my own shirt off. I took one of her breasts into my mouth and the other filled my hand. I moved her to where she was underneath me. I heard the soft thud of her flip flops hitting the floor. I followed her lead and kicked off my shoes. I unbuttoned her pants and kissed her stomach softly as I pulled them off. She yanked me back up by my hair and kissed me wildly while her fingers unbuttoned and gingerly unzipped my jeans. At least she knew not to rush the zipper. Thank god. I pulled off my pants the rest of the way along with my socks. It left us both in just underwear.

I kissed her neck tenderly as her fingers slid into my boxer and cupped my ass.

Jade

I felt the smooth expanse of baby soft skin under my fingers as he kissed my neck. It brought gave me goose bumps in a good way. I was wondering why he was leaving the underwear. I wanted all of him. He was mine. My werewolf.

His lips moved lower and his fingers went to the edge of my panties. He pulled them to my knees and kissed down my legs until he tossed them on the floor. He pulled his boxers off while he was standing up. I looked up at him; all of him. In romance novels they would make the man huge. The bigger the dick the better the sex was right? Wrong, for me at least. I've been with a guy that I considered huge and it was more pain than pleasure. Derek wasn't huge but he wasn't small either.

He moved back on top of me and I gasped as I felt him rub against me. He kissed my neck as he positioned himself to slowly enter me. My fingers dug into his back as he worked inside so slowly. I gasped again as he met the end of me. He was my size. I was starting to think more and more about the soul mate thing. How can one guy be meant for one girl to almost perfection? He kissed me as he moved faster. He grabbed my hands and pinned them above my head. He worked faster and harder to the point of pain but when I went to protest he eased up. The man was going to drive me crazy with pleasure.

He rolled us to where I was riding him. I smiled as I moved slowly at first, my knees doing most of the work. His hand moved to my hips as I could feel my orgasm start to grow. I threw my head back as he moved my hips faster as I rode him through my pleasure.

He sat up and wrapped his arms around me, capturing my lips with his before he pushed me back and got on his knees. He pulled out and rolled me over onto my stomach. I lifted my ass in the hair and he entered me from behind. He was almost too deep at this angle but he went slowly. Each thrust brought a cry from me until I was screaming. I felt his movement waver, he moaned as he came. His fingers dug into my hips. My legs shook as he pulled out. I crawled my way up to the top of the bed. My entire body shook as he came up to me. He wrapped his arms around me and I snuggled into his chest.

"Today was perfect." He said quietly.

"It was." I answered. "Why do I feel perfect around you? I just met you and I shouldn't feel this way about someone I just met."

"And how do you feel?" He asked.

"I feel, I don't know. I know lust can feel like love and people make mistakes while in lust. But why do I want to be by your side for the rest of my days?"

"There is a legend among wolves that when a wolf finds his mate that nothing can separate them, that they are bound together for all of eternity. That one cannot live without the other."

"What about when they first meet?" I asked.

I hear him chuckle. "I hope they can find a bed strong enough or make the floor soft enough."

"But we didn't-."

"I was being careful."

"Why?"

"Nothing ruins the mood more than a crushed pelvis."

"Ouch." I said.

"Yep." He replied and moved onto his back.

I laid my head on his chest and closed my eyes. His fingers caressed my arm until the next thing I knew it was morning and I was late for work.

I noticed I was alone and I got up. "Derek?" I called out.

No answer.

I finally made it to the restaurant an 30 minutes later after finding my new car in the driveway, going home, taking a quick shower and dressing for work. It was busy as usual and I got smiles from Nikki and Jessie as I walked in.

"You didn't tell me he could cook too." Nikki said as I walked passed her.

I made my way into the kitchen and Derek was in there flipping pancakes and making omelets.

"Why didn't you wake me up?" I asked after putting an apron on and washing my hands.

"You just looked so peaceful I couldn't do it." He answered as he rang the bell when an order was ready. Jessie came in and grabbed the order and Nikki brought in empty dishes to wash.

"I appreciate it, but this is my job. It's how I make money."

"And as long as I'm around you shouldn't have to worry about that." He said and made another plate and dinged the bell.

I grabbed an order slip and started to make hash browns. We worked side by side all day and when I usually fell behind I didn't today. We were actually dead by 8 o'clock. I started on the night's paperwork while he cleaned the kitchen. I might actually get out on time for once.

A song came on the radio and it was one of my favorites. I Will Survive. I started singing along as I did the paperwork. I could hear the girls singing out in the dining area. It was always my favorite part of Sundays. We acted stupid together. Jessie would dance with the broom while Nikki chose the mop. I doubt they would do it with Derek there but I rolled the chair out of the office just to see. Sure enough they were dancing and Derek's shoulders were shaking in silent laughter from the doorway in the kitchen. I rolled back to the office and finished the paperwork.

I paid the girls before they went home and Derek was waiting for me.

"They are something else." He said with a smile on his face.

"They sure are." I told him and handed him his pay.

"What's this for?" He asked.

"It's what you made today." I answered.

"Jade, honestly, don't worry about it." He said.

"Take the damn money and be happy about it." I said.

"Yes ma'am." He said and put the money in his wallet.

The rest went to the bag where I would take to the bank to drop it off. My part of my pay was already in my pocket. I knew that waitresses made less than the rest but I was fair. Some days didn't do shit in tips and who ever waitressed that day got their fair share because they worked just as hard. And some days, like Sunday, they made a hell of a lot in tips and didn't get as much from me. On a great day one of us could take home up to two hundred dollars in tips. On a bad day we were lucky for five bucks. And with bills to pay, that just wasn't fair.

I split my bills with my dad right down the center. When mom died I paid them for a while because dad was just too depressed to even get out of bed. I never complained once. He did.

I grabbed the bag for the bank drop and smiled up at Derek. His lips met mine for a brief moment. We went out to our vehicles and I sighed at the silver thing that sat in front of me. I missed my firebird. My car was a classic and I wanted it back.

"It will be all right; maybe you'll learn to like this one." Derek said as he got into his truck. I saw the smirk on his face and I flipped him off with my own smirk. He flipped me right back off. I had a feeling that I was going to love this man with all that I was or I was going to hate him with a passion of a thousand undying suns.

Months passed by and everything was perfect in my world. Thanks to Derek's help at the restaurant I was getting twice as many customers. It was mainly girls come to gawk at the new guy I think.

Tornado season passed with only two close calls like it usually was. There was a legend that Chief Lone Wolf, the founder of the town put protection on the town. Like I said, just a legend. Derek said that legend is usually based on facts. If he was a real living breathing werewolf than why couldn't the chief had done something to protect the town that he loved? I couldn't argue that.

I finally moved out of my dad's house but not into Derek's. He was saving that place just in case his brother and sister decided to come back and I respected that. He stayed at my place most of the time. It was a little two bedroom house right off the main street across from the park. The second bedroom I used for Nikki when she didn't want to be alone. Shaun had gone to prison and was going to stay there for 3 years and then serve 10 on parole. Not long enough for me but maybe she'd find someone better in the mean time. She had quit drinking since he was locked away though.

The great thing about Nikki was she knew when not to come. I don't know how she knew but she just did.

It was a day like all the others that Derek perked up. We were sitting on the couch and suddenly he sat up very rigid and I heard a growl escape his lips. I'd never heard him do that before.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"I smell another wolf." He said and went to the door.

"That's a bad thing?" I asked as he looked out at the road.

A back packer was walking by. He was wearing short sleeves and jeans.

"He looks harmless." I said.

"So did I." He said.

I closed the door and grabbed Derek's hand and brought him back to the couch to finish our movie. "He's just passing through. Let it be." I said and pushed him down on the couch. I sat on his lap and snuggled my head against his neck. He was always so warm.

"So what do you want to do on your birthday?" He asked.

"I want to go watch fireworks." I said.

"I bet you do that every year."

"Yes but when I was little my parents told me the fireworks were the world celebrating my birthday." I said with a smile. "It took me three years later to learn what Independence Day was and that only the U.S. did it."

"So why don't we do something different." He said.

"Like what?" I asked.

"Well it falls on a Saturday so I would like to see you drunk." He said.

"You wouldn't like to see me drunk. I'm a stupid drunk."

"I heard you're a funny drunk."

"Says who?" I asked.

"Everyone." He said and I looked up at him.

"Nikki." I said.

"Who else." He smiled.

"Can you dance?" I asked.

"I can waltz but that's it."

"No way." I said.

"Sadly."

I grabbed my cell phone and sent a text message to Jessie and Nikki to meet us at Rumors. "Come one." I said and grabbed my large book of CDs.

"What are we doing?"

"We're going to have a foursome." I said as I grabbed my keys. We didn't drive there anymore since I was only two blocks away now but I did lock my door.

The girls were already inside and gave me a questioning look.

"Derek here wants to take me out for my birthday but yet doesn't know how to dance."

"I can too." He protested.

"This is the south honey, we don't waltz." I said.

"So what first?" Jessie asked.

"The Two Step is the easiest." I said.

"Two Step?" He asked.

"I know you know what the two step is. You don't live 24 years and never hear of it."

"I think he needs to watch Oklahoma." Nikki said.

"OOOOOOOO-klahoma where the winds come sweeping down the plains." Jessie sang.

"Oh dear lord." I said. "You had to say that. Now it's going to be stuck in my head for days."

Derek was just smiling with a huge grin on his face.

My birthday finally arrived and Jessie, Nikki, my dad, Daniel, Derek, and I were all sitting at my dad's. Well Daniel, Derek, and my dad had snuck away. I was very happy that my dad liked Derek. If I was a few years younger I knew that would be different.

The girls and I were sitting on the couch eating popcorn and watching a movie.

"So are you going to marry Derek?" Jessie asked, her eyes never leaving the movie.

"I don't know." I answered.

"If he asked what would you say?"

"I don't know." I answered again. "Why? Did he tell you he was going to ask?"

"No, I was just curious." She answered

"Oh." I said and we continued to movie in silence.

Derek finally showed up and blind folded me.

"I don't like surprises." I said.

"You'll like this one." He said as he led me outside.

"Oh my god." Nikki said.

"What?" I asked.

"You'll love it." She answered.

I smelled my dad's cologne as he took my blind fold off. There sat my beautiful car. Tears came to my eyes as I went up to it.

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Brand new motor, fixed some dents and a fresh paint job." My dad answered.

"So that's where you and Derek went to every Saturday." I said. "Thank you. Both of you." I actually hugged my car.

"I knew how much the piece of junk meant to you." My dad said.

"Well you're the cheap one that made me buy it myself."

"Yes, and do you see why?"

"Of course dad. You never did anything that didn't make me better." I kissed his cheek.

"Let's go for a ride." Nikki said.

"Derek is going to stay here and help me with the burgers." Dad said.

Derek

"Okay." Jade said as she got into her car. Jessie and Nikki got in as well. Her happiness was contagious. We watched them drive off.

"Help me with the grill son." Jim said and went to the garage. It was a heavy thing and he grunted as he tried to move it.

"Allow me." I said. I showed off a little and moved the thing by myself. It was a grill and a smoker and looked like it was made by hand.

"My father made this when I was a kid. I never had to buy a new one; it runs on wood, which you can tell is abundant in places."

"Must have taken a while." I said.

"We worked on it a whole summer." He said and I helped him put large chunks of wood into it.

"Jim?" I said.

"Yeah?" He answered.

"I'm old fashioned about this but I'm going to ask whether you say yes or no." I pulled out a ring box.

He got a smile on his face. "I don't swing that way, I thought you knew." He joked.

"I'm asking your permission to take your daughter as my wife." I said. "I've been around the world and never has a woman made me want to drop to my knees and give her everything I can offer."

Jim poured lighter fluid on the wood and threw in a match. "I don't know what it is about you, she loves you more deeply than I ever seen her love. What you two have is rare and I'm not going to say no to that. The thing is, getting her to say yes." He said with a smile. "If she does, I would be proud to call you my son."

I couldn't help but smile. I seemed to do that a lot these past few months. Since Solomon and Maribel left there was nothing to stress me out. On full moons I ran free without someone screaming in my head and in the mornings I went back to Jade. I just wish she could run beside me. She had kept my secret and I was happy for that but maybe I wanted her to be a true part of that secret. It tormented me at times because I didn't want to curse her to that life. It was a gift and a curse at the same time. The gift was I never had gotten sick; I healed quickly if I was hurt, and I lived. The curse was that I was a monster; I always had that animal that wanted to kill. To taste blood on my tongue. And the biggest part of the curse was I lived.
