As we reached the end of that field we slowed and turned into a lane that led to a stone, two storey house set back from the road. We pulled up to a barn behind and to the side of the house and stopped.

Beeth and Sharn stepped out of the carriage and Connie and I followed them, holding hands, to the house. As we entered through a back door I felt that there were others there in conversation. We passed through a kitchen and into a large open room with comfortable-looking furniture around the edges. There were several people sitting around looking at us as we entered and the conversation stopped. Almost instantly I felt a'Welcome' come from all there accompanied by wide smiles.

Sharn stepped into the middle of the room.

'Welcome to our home. As you will experience in the next few hours, we are all partners in this household, all equal. You can think of us as a family. We each have our roles and duties but there is no father or mother, no sons or daughters and that is not only because we don't take on gender as such. What I mean is that none of us begat any of the others here. We are probably closer to the concept of a commune in your human history. You have met Cari. She is facilitating your visit here and she is very much a part of our household. You will come to know each of us by sharing so there is no point in more introductions. Please join us.'

Sharn held out their arms and Connie and I went into them as the others stood and surrounded us in a group hug. I was aware of Connie beside me and Sharn in front of me initially but as the others surrounded us, I began to loose the sense of separation. I was feeling the typical high of being in the presence of a Selurian but magnified, I assumed, by the number surrounding us. I actually didn't think about it much, instead I just sank into the feeling. Skin against skin, lips against lips, hands caressing hips, breasts, nipples, slits. I turned my head to the right and saw a face, similar to any that I had seen on Seluria but knew, without hesitation it was Yonni. We had not been introduced and yet I knew their name. I looked to the other side and recognized Sano. I raised myself up and looked for Connie. I didn't see her near me on the floor.

'I'm in here.'

I instantly knew Connie had just answered the question in my mind and that she was in a room on the other side of the kitchen. I untangled myself from the others on the floor and I made my way to the kitchen then into what appeared to be a dining room. Connie smiled at me and placed a cup of warm something in my hand. I sipped what was in the cup and felt a warm, almost familiar sensation, like a cup of coffee, only different.

I looked around and saw Sharn and Beeth and two others I knew from our sharing. Everyone had a warm, satisfied feeling about them. I felt no need to talk and apparently neither did they as we drank in silence. After I finished my drink I placed the cup on the large table and, one by one, starting with Connie, hugged each of them to me, deeply, and kissed them, then looking into their eyes. Looking back at me was each individual but also a part of me and of each other person we had shared with. I became aware that Connie had done the same thing with them. Looking at her again I she nodded with a slight smile then looked over my shoulder.

I turned to look behind me and there were the remaining people we had shared with. They all hugged me, kissed me and looked into my eyes then did the same with Connie, Beeth and Sharn.

In a short while, with all helping, the table was filled with food. Connie and I pitched in with empathic help from the others. We then sat down and the food was passed around. Connie and I took a little of each offering and passed it on. It smelled very good and I suddenly realized I was starving. I started tasting the food and it was as good as it smelled. I had a sense they we just catching up with daily events.

Sharn began'All of the food here is grown nearby. We eat very few things that come from any distance since we don't have very efficient, long range transportation. It is all from plant sources. Since we have developed our empathic and telepathic abilities, our people stopped eating animal flesh.'

We ate our fill in a very congenial atmosphere. I was content to just soak in the family feeling of the house. Then something occurred to me. I was curious about something Sharn had said before our sharing'You said none of you begat each other but that you are like a family. How do you choose each other to live with?'

'It happens serendipitously. Most of us have always lived in this village but Yonni came here after meeting Sano in the capital.'

'So are there, for lack of a better term, many traditional families; father, mother, children?'

Sharn looked at Beeth and I felt them both hesitate. Beeth answered'Yes, but very few. Our natural birth rate has dropped very low, which is why you are here.'

I was going to press more but Sharn stood suddenly and announced it was time to leave to go to the capital so we would have time to get there before dark. I had the feeling they didn't want to talk on this topic any longer.

Connie and I followed Sharn and Beeth out to the same carriage we arrived in and shortly we were on our way, continuing in the same direction we had travelled earlier. The road wound its way through more fields and orchards like we had seen before. "I'm Ashton Lyle, with the Sirius IV Company Security Force. Are you here of your own free will?"

"Yes. We came here earlier with several Selurians to participate in what they called sharing."

"When was that?"

"Monday morning. Why?"

"It is now Wednesday evening. We were alerted by her supervisor that Ms. Howell had not been at work for 3 days. We were able to trace the driverless car that brought you here."

I turned to look at Connie and asked "Connie, are you OK?"

"I'm fine, Rick. You?"

"I'm good."

"Can you stand?"

Her placed his hands under my arms and helped me to my feet. I was still a little groggy but was able to stand without leaning on him. I saw Connie was now on her feet too. The officers picked up our jumpsuits and handed them to us. After we put them on we were led over to the couches and we all sat, the officers flanking us.

The security guy asked "Tell me more about why you are here."

'Remember our promise to keep things secret, Rick'

'I have no idea. They said if they did that we would remember Andi but nothing else. I still remember the offer they made. They said specifically they would wipe that if we refused. 'The genetic transformation and life-long stay on our planet that we intended for you and the others that volunteered before you, are no longer necessary. The others have been given the choice to leave and be returned to their prior state.'

'We are a very private people and, because there was no reason for you to stay here after the help you gave us, we wiped those portions of your memory specific to the changes we have begun based on your insight. There is no reason why any non-Selurian, even you, need to know the specifics.'

'We chose to show our gratitude by letting you retain your powers of empathy and telepathy and by making a few modification to your bodies that we thought you would enjoy. If you find any of these modification not to your liking we can adjust things as you like. The connection we have with you both is strong enough that we will always know what is happening in your life wherever you are.'

'Finally, we thought you might like to meet Sara and Leni. They were the host bodies you inhabited during your visit. Our telepathic powers are great but we can't create a body out of thin air. While here, your consciousness was hosted in their bodies. They willed their conscious minds out of the way so yours could take over, temporarily.'

Beeth turned to look at the two I had not recognized and smiled.

I turned to them'Thank you for facilitating our visit. It never even occurred to me that we were experiencing your planet through someone else's body.'

'Yes, thank you.' Connie nodded.

'We are happy to have been able to be the conduit for your visit, especially since you have made such a difference to us all.'

Karn continued'You may share your new bodies with others, if you like. If they ask how this came about just say it was a surgical body augmentation, like a breast implant or sex change. On the other hand, maybe you have formed a bond together such that you won't need others to share with. It is up to you. All we ask is that you please protect the privacy of our planet and people.'

I asked'Will we see any of you again?'

'Unlikely but who knows.'

I thought for a moment'Where are Andi and Karn?'

'They are the ones making this visit possible. Your consciousness is in their bodies right now.'

I heard a voice in my head in a way that was unlike jahiri.

'Hello, Rick.'

I was Karn, in my head or...whatever. It was strange.

'Karn, thank you for your help. Even though our first meeting was way over the top, you were a good guide to us.'

'You are welcome, Rick.'

I glanced at Connie and she seemed distracted. I assumed she was having a similar conversation with Andi.

'As I said earlier, you may reach out to us.'

At that Beeth and all the others smiled and the connection was over.

I woke in the morning although it was a bit late. I was alone in the bed. I got up to find Connie in the kitchen with coffee. She handed me my cup and put her arm around my waist pressing her body gently into my side. I put my free arm around her.

She asked'Did you have the same dream that I did?'

'I think it was more than a dream, but yes. I sounds like you had a great idea, whatever it was.'

'Yeah. I've been thinking about that. Nothing leaps to mind but maybe it will come to me.'

I sipped my coffee and let my mind wander back over the past several weeks. Our world had changed and I felt closer to Connie than I ever had to anyone. I wanted that to be there always. We would never be able to explain the acts of sharing we had experienced but maybe we could share ourselves with a few select others.

Connie must have been thinking along similar lines. She looked at me and said one word.

"Tom"
