She was sobbing continuously from the pain and he felt an urge to comfort her. So he crept out of the little hole in the bathroom, reached the first-aid box without fainting or dying inspite of the gore around him and saved her life.
A week later, Saint was enrolled in the Terminator training along with a reformed Zara, who was also his best friend now.
Ten years older Saint drifted into sleep with the sweet and sore memories of their adventures in the training compound and the time they met the five years senior Andrew Drake.

Zarlene woke up with a headache, much less sever then the last one. Her head was humming slowly, tendrils of pain jostling her whole body. She tried to move her left arm but it was still limp and hanging.
Only then did she noticed the second presence. Saint was hunched up on a nearby seat facing away from her and definitely going through something important. She felt bad not finding Andrew anywhere.
"So he's still at the headquarters?"
Saint flinched as if her words stung. It was unusual but she let it pass for now.
"Yes." Saint replied with a flat tone not even facing it. Now he was creeping her out. He behaves like this only when he is working on something very important and mostly dangerous or hurt. She could say he was working but she wasn't sure about the hurt part. She means, why would he be hurt? She just asked where Andrew was.
"What are you doing?" She asked after she worked her broken arm into a makeshift sling. She walked behind him trying not to fall and break something else.
Saint sighed when he felt her behind him. This was difficult. After what happened yesterday, all he could do was to stay as far away from her as possible. He knew his feelings were misplaced and he really regret it. So he wanted to stand down and not poke where he was unwanted.
So he tried to engage his mourning mind to do something productive. And it really worked. For the last twelve hours, now it was almost midnight, he was working on the tissue and brain sample he somehow managed to collect (Andrew ordered him not to bring that mess in. Which was very unusual) of the monster and prepare something he was working on from five years, and the new version was really promising if it works. And he thought of her only a few dozen times. Great start.
He shifted to the right to get some room. It wasn't healthy for him to be so close to her anymore. Now that his chance was eliminated.
"Just working on some tissue samples of that zombie freak." He replied trying to be as warm as possible.
"Yeah. It really was a freak. DO you know he wanted to fuck me?" She said sitting beside him. Still sore, it was hard to stand for much longer.
He took a sharp breath at her words. The last two eliciting some really enticing glimpses, mostly going around her begging him to do some really questionable things to her.
Only after a few moments did he really got his mind in enough working conditions to let what she meant sink.
"Really?" This was interesting.
"Yes. He 'asked' me to spread my legs. It was a rather discreet implication." She said staring at the tiny capillaries, placed under the microscope.
Saint was now fully dry from his initial downpour on her arrival.
"Well damn."
Zara looked at him questioningly.
"Damn what?"
He shook his head. "We are in deep trouble. If what you are saying is true then." He paused to collect his thoughts, "Then we are facing a brand new kind of biological hazard."
She looked confused as she should be. SO he continued.
"Zara, do you remember what we read about zombies back at the compound?"
She looked as if it was the dumbest question ever.
"Ofcouse I do, silly. I'm a terminator now remember. Knowing these things comes with the job description."
"Okay, let us revise anyway. Zombies are dumb residues of their former life. They are little more then rotting pieces of meat. They live for the basest need- feed to live. They are hard to kill unless you take out their heads or some important organs. They have little sense of pain and their..."
"Fuck it. I already know these things!" She cut him short, "Will you please move on?"
"Calm down, I was getting right there. So you know what they are but do you know why they are so?"
She answered innocently, "Because they are mutated by Black gas?"
"Well technically you are right. But if we looke through it deeply." Saint shifted in his seat involuntarily to get a comfortable position, "We find that this is because of the slight change in their DNA. The gas made them into these savage emotionless beasts, but still their DNA remained 92% identical to ours. But this... this thing was a mixture of many."
It was evident to both of them. The surprising lack of bodies on the site just proved it.
"The zombies I killed somehow mashed up together, that's what I thought when I saw his multiple limbs and heads." She stated.
"Yeah, but why male? You know what I mean." He said. Zara narrowed her eyes.
"YOU SAW IT?"
"Well it was sitting right on your lap when I got there and that was too big to miss. It makes me wonder how it get there..."
"SHUT UP!"She smacked him on his arm, growing redder and redder in shade.
Saint laughed at her demise. It was surprising he still could around her.
"Any way. That thing is they weren't your typical zombies. They were lab test zombies."
She frowned.
"What do you mean 'Lab Test Zombies'"
"I mean what I said. You remember what you asked me tomorrow at the Tech Hub? About how they were not smart enough to figure out two Gates at once?" After her brief nod he continued, "Well they weren't there by their own. They were sent there."
This really surprises her.
"What you mean someone was controlling them?"
"Sort of. They were half successful lab tests, sent there by someone or something as guinea pigs to collect practical data or something. What I observed from these samples is evident enough that they are further mutated with some kind of mutation strain that gives them some extra abilities."
"Like REGENERATION?" She exclaimed her rave hair flailing around her.
"Precisely. But it doesn't end there. The strain was so powerful that the DNA was damaged. That is why I proclaimed them to be half successful. But if half of it is this much devastating then we can only hope not to face the fully mutated host."
He sipped some water before continuing.
"Now comes the awkward part. I found out that whoever is behind this wants the hosts to... to reciprocate by breeding."
She just oohed.
"Their sexual drive is coaxed back and it somehow regenerated their reproductive organs, but only in males. The females remained 'barren' in that manner. They need fertile human ovaries to copulate and produce wee baby ZOMBIES!"
"So that's why he wanted to do me." She smiled, "It is reassuring that I'm fertile."
Saint gave her a look that clearly asked- You doubted you fertility? Duh.
"Okay back to mutant zombies. This is really alarming. I think we should get these samples to the main lab back at colony for recheck." She held her hands up when he shot a glare at her, "Not that I don't believe you. Commander will not take this seriously unless it is marked by the scientists upstairs."
He sighed. She was right.
"So anything else?"
He looked at her then at a black velvet box seated behind her on the desk, hidden well from unaware eyes. maybe it is time for the revelation...
"Zara... I have been working on something from last few years. Something that can reverse the effect of the virus if taken in proper timing. I was failing till... till I brought in these samples. Now I think it might actually work." He said in a small voice.
"So you kept it hidden from me in fear that I might spill it out to someone." She said standing up, her expression ungiving but clearly dark. He knew he was double screwed in less than 24 hours.
"Kara, I believe you won't. It was..." He was cut short by a distant explosion that shook the room to every inch violently. He grasped Zara's hand right before she could fall and hurt her broken arm.
"Let's talk about it later." He said hurriedly going on his feet.
Within a few moments another explosion rocked them.
"ZARLENE, STAY CLOSE." He cried when the room stopped shaking. Suddenly a sharp resonating sound filled the atmosphere.
"The emergency siren. It means..."
"The a Gate is breached." He finished it for her.
