There once was a lovely child
Full of mischief and joy,
She went through her days happy and content
Assured of her family's heart.

One day it all changed
In her fourth year,
No longer the sole object
Of her mother's heart.

The child was happy still
For a long, long while to come,
As siblings took the place
Of an empty spot in her heart.

But then in her twelfth year
It all drastically changed,
Her innocence was ripped away
Like a babe from it's mother's womb.

The child then knew fear
As never before,
Afraid say anything
Afraid of being one who was blamed.

After a terrible year
A teenager she became,
A child in years no longer
Childish joy felt no more.

A confidence in a friend
Brought her ordeal to an end,
Justice was dealt to the guilty
The innocent sent away.

Two years of sadness
She did endure,
In her loving exile
Under her grandparent's watchful eyes.
She cried the day she was asked
To finally come home at last,
Only to learn the shock of discovery
Not to be the only one welcomed.
Three more years
She lived in constant fear,
That the past would come back
And be relived again.

She left home young
Eager to get away,
To live her own life
Begin her own family.

A vicious circle had begun
Much to her surprise,
The man she thought she loved
Didn't care for her at all.

She packed her bags
And came crawling back,
To the only place from that dark place
She felt she could truly be safe.

Tears filled her eyes
And love filled her heart,
On that eventful day
Her wee one was born.

To her child she did swear
Everlasting love and protection,
From the constant terror and fear
She had endured long ago.

She and her mother grew close
During this time,
They both left together
To start their new lives.

The two of them together
Made a good team,
With a lovely little girl
Full of mischief and joy.

relief.

At last peace comes to one who had so long ago embarked on a Sea of Turmoil. Who doesn't love a happy ending.

A haunting piece

Full of pain and grief

Of how love turns to ash

In an unsuspecting mouth.
