Poem and music by Legerdemer; piano accompaniment by AlwaysHungry.
The spell was cast so long ago,
the ship set sail and drifted...
To distant shores I longed to go
and reach imagined deserts.
You spoke so slow, intoned so low
I almost didn't hear you.
A wish, a song, a longer poem,
a gift I'd give you freely.
A sweet caress I longed to press,
Wished in your arms I rested.
The words I hear, the game too dear,
I wish you'd travel safely.
Without reward, no expectation
I spread my arms to free you.
Clouds in the sky their raindrops shed,
my own tears they diminished.
Will you return my whispered breath?
Will you allay my sorrows?
I sang to you, oh dearest one,
in hopes you'd sing to me.
Don't speak a word, don't write or call
don't force me to remember.
I sang to you, oh dearest one.
Will you allay my sorrows?
Author's Notes: This poem dates to about mid-2014, though in a different form. About a year later I became intrigued with setting poems to music - could I do it? I posted a thread on the Poetry Forum & Discussion threads and got some encouraging feedback. Not long after, I became friends with the musician AlwaysHungry (himself a very talented poet), who took up the challenge of helping me. He wrote the piano accompaniment after hearing my recording of the melody I'd come up with. It took three tries to get the key right, and way too many tries to come up with what you now hear, still far from perfect. But I am fond of the result, and I hope it's enjoyable to others as well. As usual, your constructive feedback will be highly appreciated.
