down an amber neck,
retreating foam
tickling feet....
try both at once
for memorable effect.
Outer Banks summer
feet sinking in the sand,
each wave a little higher
step back and drink your baby,
hold huggie in either hand.
Summer beach poetry
as tenuous as it gets
slow baking numbed thoughts,
dropping a few brain cells
watching them float bye,
fish food for a pompano
cruising the suds as I.
...I arrived late - but I loved this poem. The last verse alone is great. The use of "floats bye" is clever invoking something floating away.
A five!
Nice to read something different. Your poetry has a distinct voice.
Don't see any dropped brain cells here, my friend. A piece of art. Looks like all the Lit. poets are joining you for a bonfire on the beach this weekend. You bring the long necks, I'll bring the Coppertone and the bikini.
Oh, and you'll have to put down that beer if you want to lotion this long neck.....
Kisses, d.s.
I love the beach and you took me there with this one... thanks.
