The "General Equivalence Diploma,"
Used to be a GOOD thing for the poor.
It could help them get a BETTER CHANCE in life,
It's "Diploma" could open the door!
The G-E-D that's being taught today,
No longer instructs in what's needed.
ALL it's CONCERNED about is "Higher Learning,"
And the "Basic" stuff is unheeded!
What they seem to push is "Higher Mathmatics,"
Things like "Calculus," and "Algebra."
They won't concede the impractibility,
But they INSIST for a "Diploma!"
The "General Math" is all that SHOULD be taught,
It's SOMETHING everybody WILL use.
The G-E-D should get BACK to the "Basics,"
And start HELPING the poor get their "DUE!!"
