The moon wanes
Pulling its shadow
Across a sleeping face
So we say goodnight
Meaning to hold the moment
In arms as childsafe warm
As the first night
Even though
It is much later
And later than we think

My body strains
To smell your smells
To love you when you’re not here
I remember your touch
or touching you
and it is all
all I can do
I love the love we make
Only now it has left the house
And gone to college
Sometimes it rings the phone
To call and ask for money
