Spook a boy
make him think I’m crazy.
It’s a certain magic that I have.

Leaves me feeling
too far extended.
Felt the snap.

Felt him go
too much
too close.
She’s work not pleasure.

There isn’t enough kindness in
what moves between us,
hard edges,
bones press up into the skin,
palpable and aching.

We misunderstand each other
so easily
and he’s not the kind
to stay long enough to find out why.

Words like candle flame
made me shiver close again,
but I should know better
it isn’t a dance that works.

He’ll step on my toes,
and if I complain,
he’ll be gone.

Made him think I’m crazy,
makes me wonder if I am,
open to the world
and bruisable.

Maybe it’s better to be closed.
He’s a mean boy,
and he thinks I’m a crazy girl.
He draws back before I do,
both tempted by the weaving line
of easy language
that can flow between us.

Bemused I chastise myself
silly, stubborn girl.
My only regret is that he always
pulls back first.

Simple, Sweet Sad

Music box simple and universal. Who hasn't been there, in some sense? Thank you.

wry, with just the right twist of sad ...

you are rapidly turning into a new favourite - your ability to manipulate and twist masterful - you have just the right balance of wryness and pathos in this ... excellent!

Beautiful writing!

I enjoyed this poem very much. It flowed easily with an economy of language which identifies a competent poet. The subject matter made be feel sad and wistful - another strength to elist emotion with your words. I hope, one day, the boy will know you well enough not to draw back first and you will trust your inner feelings to allow someone to shield you against the world so you may remain open and not closed.

:)

sister witch, you and I both.

loved this poem, you state so easily what I plunder my mind for the right words to cry when I am all alone and wondering about him.
