September leaves fall around
Smell of Fall in the air
Sky the breeze a whiff of perfume
I run my hand through your hair,

What brought us here a moment in time
Far from the maddening crowd
Thinking thoughts we ramble along
A road that will soon need plowed,

Fall recedes winter comes calling
Snow surely to drift
Across this path so friendly now
Through memories we sift,

Warm June days down by the lake
Wearing nothing but smiles
Winding roads top folded down
Racking up the miles,

Late night wine morning coffee
Bed sheets tossed aside
Secret lives buried deep
From each other we hid,

Superficial sense of glee
Careful don’t scratch too deep
Curled together beneath the stars
Perchance to dream to sleep,

So where is it that we’re going
Where is it that we’ve been
If we had a chance to do it over
Would we do it all again,
