When passion turned to pain
regret overwhelmed my senses
I begged for the answer
needed to mend broken fences

But the past is far behind us
and our bond couldn’t withstand
your desperate need to be right
and the lies you told, so grand

Friends shouldn’t be as close
as we had actually become
Letting go hurt at first,
but not now that I’m numb

Broken trust
Shallow lies
the force behind
my lonely cries

It’s all too late now
there’s no turning back
the friendship is gone
this love you’ll forever lack

Searching for an answer
that’s been here all along
to shut it all out, just
take another hit off the bong

The pain of loss

Hitting the bong or several good stiff shots

Will soften those painful edges.

Familiar pain

The pain of letting a friendship slip away quietly into the past ~ evocative.
