another cup of coffee
always a good choice
hang Levi's and tee-shirt on the hook
out onto the frosty deck
step over the edge and sink
into 106 degree water --

coming up on the shortest day of the year
sunrise not until 10 a.m.
sunset at 3 p.m. --

watching the still-dark sky
Super Novas exploding
planets colliding
deadly radiation
absolute zero
the vacuum of space
my coffee growing cold --

The kind of poem that's so easy to read at 6 in the morning with that coffee;

It's clear, clean and direct,

Pleasingly easy on a mind still filled with webs,

Readying it for its later work on more somber words.

Peaceful.

A quaint picture ~ sitting alone with the sky still dark ~ having that first cup of coffee. Realistic and endearing.
