Deep blue waters glinting silver in the moonlight
the gentle rhythmic rocking of the swells.
A flash of silver scales as a fish appears
before diving into the cool calm depths below.
The smell of the ocean on the warm breeze
shadows waver and dance by lanterns glow.
Sounds clear and sharp on the midnight air
the whine of the winch and the hum of the lines.
Gentle murmurs and bursts of laughter flow
as mates talk as they survey the bulging nets.
Skilled eyes and hands quickly sort the haul
packing away the catch and cleaning the rest away.
Silence comes when tasks are at an end
and weary men move off to relax and rest.
One man stands alone and watches the ocean, lost
in the sway of the boat and the rock of the waves.
Deep in contemplation he stands motionlessly, silently
as he listens to every creak and groan of his boat.
And as the faint glow of the coming day grows
in the east where the twilight meets the dawn
and dreams greet the new born day.
Lost in the warmth of the rising sun he smiles. . .
his boat, his ocean, his freedom. Like a lovers brace.
Nice to know what a fisherman that enjoys his life and the ocean is thinking and lets us share the moment.
