Mother's face is lines
weathered into place
by years
of sorrow;
etched upon the canvas
of her heart,
strictly subjugated,
straightened
by disapproval.

Mother's face is lines
ground into place
by years
of disdain;
carved into the clay
of her soul,
heavily suppressed
by disapproval.

Mother's face is lines
seared into place
by years
of heartache;
worn into the fabric
of her spirit,
deeply ingrained
by disapproval.
