Waiting for Me: or The Circle of Dreams

Waiting for me as I skipped up the steps
There on threshold of our home
Your gentle, handsome visage
Reminded me I was not alone

There on the threshold of our home
When you saw me you smiled
I was breathless and sweaty
From running the last mile

When you first saw me you smiled
Like the sun greeting a flower
Like a moonbeam in the night
Like a desert catching a shower

Like the sun greeting a flower
'Tho I smelled like a gym
You opened up your soul
And freely let me in

"Tho I smelled like a gym
You enfolded me in your arms
Where I was snug and sheltered
And safely kept from harm

You enfolded me in your arms
As you did in a dream last night
You touched my hair, caressed my face
And kissed me with starlight

As you did in a dream last night
You were filled with passion's fire
And took me to a secret place
And filled me with desire

You were filled with passion's fire
As evening slipped away
I was complexly lost in you
Until the break of day

As evening slipped away
And passion's fire cooled
We slipped off into sleep
To a place where Venus ruled

And passion's fire cooled
'Ere aurora's trumpet knelled
But I remained caught in your heat
Completely in your spell

'Ere aurora's trumped knelled
I quietly slipped away
To walk along life's twisted path
For yet another day

I quietly slipped away
And left you caught in slumber
The daylight hours passed quickly
I walked on unencumbered

And left you caught in slumber
And there you woke alone
But my love you trusted me
You knew I would come home

And there you woke alone
To make your weary wander
Along the path that lies ahead
Where will you go, I ponder?

To make your weary wander
Would you come back I prayed?
Or travel on a different path
And leave me behind, dismayed

Would you come back I prayed?
Waiting for me as I tripped up the steps
Or in your dream did you go off
And leave me as I slept?
