It's not the way you dance the dance
not even how the music's played,
dark fortune makes charade her lance
when all you've worked for is betrayed.

Not even how the music's played
can make your feet the rhythm keep,
when fate steps in to break your stride
and brings the pain that makes you weep.

Dark fortune makes charade her lance
that calls for strength to each intent,
decisions easy once to make
don't swing when sickness won't relent.

When all you've worked for is betrayed
the mind must be what takes the stance,
each faltering footstep in my head
relearns the way I danced the dance.

good stuff

This would make an excellent theme for a villanelle with a bit of adjustment - but I rather like it in its present form too - well done. Sweet O.

Nice

No fun getting old.

You found a good form, too.
