A little time outside the lung
Occasioned some toilette
And cursive thoughts in verse
She printed with a sharpened wit.

Recovered drunk, her dad confessed
That life resumed for him
When he chose which shoe to wear
Instead of laying there in bed.

She named the right one Optimist,
The other one was Fate,
Listened as her father finished
Another page from Proust,

And wore his blue suede shoes
While mother slid her in.
