We dance,
Her arm around my waist,
A hand in mine.
We move in time.

A dip,
And up,
A breath of her perfume as her hair brushes my face;
I ache.

We pull close together,
Three long strides forward,
Two back steps.
We pull in close again.
Her breasts press against mine;
My nipples harden.
Then a fake embrace;
Not fake desire though.

Around the room in the spotlight,
An outward fling;
I miss her body.
Come together and lift;
Her waist is so tiny — a hint of skin through her sequined dress.

Down and around the floor together once more.
She leans backwards, forcing her pelvic against mine;
I flash to fantasy.

Up again,
A spin,
Then into my arms.
The spotlight is on us.
Applause.
She flashes me a smile;
It’s clear she is my friend.
A hole that feels like a rock drops through my stomach ...

This poem wasn't doing as much for me as some of your other work, until the last line, then you knocked me on my ass.
