Met in the Costco checkout line
‘how you doin’?’, I asked, ‘just fine’
you answered, as you wrote your check
‘care for a coffee?’ what the heck
I asked, you said ‘that’d be nice’
I didn’t even have to ask twice,

Wandered down to the Starbuck Place
Had a nice smile on your face
You in jeans, a Turtleneck T
I had coffee, you had tea,
Talked about the weather and stuff
Of politics, you’d had enough
Discussed the trade imbalance with Asia
I envisioned us under an Acacia
Tree somewhere on The Savannah
Or perhaps a hotel room in Atlanta,

But we had places to go, to do
Traded cell phone numbers with you
Both agreed it was a shame
Our afternoon was a bit too tame,

Fact and Fantasy, two sides of the dime
Some other place, some other time …
