a sweep of the tail
of the seven bar zebra
erases the curfew

youngsters cruise
in rock blasting boats
of a stone river of
San Jose downtown

the open window--the
Mozart of my opera house
directs sailors, beggars, angels
in blue and white
to the cell of my dreams

San Jose sings to me in spanish
english
chinese
dust
has covered your stereo
your cd player spins no frisbees

welcome my city i say
already asleep
