Side of the road with my notebook
my pack and memories
early spring morning
thumb out in the breeze,
Heading to the future
escaping from the past
wearing clean work clothes
my happy/sad facemask,

Trucks rush by indifferent
cars, no room for me
then a girl on a unicycle
stops to take a pee,
Finished with her business
zips up and smiles my way
comments what a wonderful
day to run away,

I tell her I'm not running
she grins and says 'you think?'
there by the side of road
and gives me a wink,
She picks up three pebbles
juggles them with poise
between the morning quiet
and the rumbling highway noise,

Then she snaps her finger
unicycle vaporizes
as the smoke clears
a black Porsche arises,
She says 'you wanta drive?'
I tell her that I do
and off we go together
off to somewhere new,

The Unicycle Girl
and I eat time and space
I do all the driving
in our one-car race,
To get to the future
before it's obsolete
I tell that I'm happy
She says 'ain't that sweet',

Now in any other poem
she'd become my lover
there beside the road
new things, I'd discover,
When I tell this story
lovers we become
in truth I'm still standing there
sticking out my thumb,
