Still the morning’s fair and
there’s always the long
night’s promise -

but the clock’s ticking is dry
and cracked, the night
spent awake:

there’s no sweet voice you may
talk to and share things
after lights out

and the fair morning lies hard on
a shy mind’s silence -
the screen is blank.
