It's not just a change
in the weather nor yet
a turn of the seasons,

nor even a sudden
illness - you may not
find any difference;

you may be basking
in the summer's warmth
and still be wearing

yesterday's trousers,
your hair untouched by
any touch of grey but

it's when you've put
the shabby remains of
your hopeless dreams

out with last week's
bygones for the dust-
man to take away.

I see myself...

...in these stanzas. Such stark, beautifully expressed truth!
