My mistress' eyes are brilliant like the sun -
They brightly beam on all that's in their sphere
From their awakening until they've run
Their day's full circle when they disappear
Out of my sight for eight long hours or more
And I must bear the darkness of the night,
The coldness in between, to underscore
Day's joyful purity, warm, clear and light.
But our cold climate doesn't lack for rain.
Too often summer's soaked in heaven's tears
And longed-for sun, come out, retreats again
To leave but frowning clouds and thunder's fears -
And there's no telling when again she'll be
Up in her orbit, shedding light on me.
