Egyptian gallery. Amidst the wealth
of splendid sculpture, mummies, tombs and gold
a simple necklace held my eyes. It made

me long to take it from its case and drape
its blue and silver beads on naked skin
enhancing thus two beauties. But too long

one has been hidden from the world, too long
been out of reach. You have no truck with such
outlandish thoughts or feelings, with such things

impractical – and so the vision shifts
on my grey longing, like a worn-out jest,
to lose its shine upon a stranger’s breast.

Obvious colour

clash, despite what they say about grey

You have no truck with such- assume you is self reference of the protagonist, this has the voice of a fussy old bat, again I would prefer the flutter of more lively words.

How sad!

For such love to go unrequited is heartbreaking! A beautiful evocation of one man's appreciation for and love of beauty.

I thought you were preparing me for something with "enhancing thus two beauties" for a later dramatic contrast, but I too am confused by the ending.
