It was a
Question and Statement of fact that came out of nowhere
in that small room on that sunny day.
Books on the shelves surround me -
And I remember - the silence.

Floating through my mind searching for words
but only discovering a smile with a blush of innocence,
like a child caught in the act of doing something wrong,
a silence coupled with an uncomfortable laugh that
arose with the draw of a breath,
as you stare into the eyes of the one before you,
whose tilted head lets the light softly
highlight her subtle, yet charming features.

A gasp, a discovery.
a silent voice with an
answer already known but never answered and reasonably
ignored yet purposely forgotten.

It was a
Question and Statement of fact that will forever
stand out in my mind.
Never forgotten, seldom revisited.
Eternity standing on end as you
search your dreams, floating
towards the words that you just couldn't say.

But maybe she did hear you answer that
question and statement of fact, for
in the silence I subtly replied, "I do"
from the depths and recesses of my heart, soul and my mind.
