Click hereThe ramble that we made across the downs
through copses, fields and meadows, when the days
were turning copper, and the warring winds
blew both our thoughts and hair in disarray,
when in a field we sat upon a fence
and gazed across the river to the town
and said we wouldn't go there, but instead
picked up our bags, and turned our steps around -
that ramble still stands sharply in my mind.
I feel your hand in mine, and your sweet eyes
have lodged themselves inside my thoughts to stay
when we lay down together, but to rise
and kiss each other ruefully - we knew
our scruples would not let us end the play;
we got up fast, and bashfully returned -
again our better sense got in the way.
So glad I got to read it, really a wonderful flow to the lines. :-)
