the bride stood anxiously
as her daughter combed her hair
the family and friends were in place
for the third time

her first a ‘real winner’
back when she was young and unwise
big fan of insurance schemes
and disability
treated her and their two kids
badly

her second a ‘real bore’
a narcoleptic
many years her senior, never married previously
engaged 3 times though
as cold in bed as in life

her third
the man she was meeting down the aisle
in mere moments
he was different.

They met at the gym
she was always very friendly
discovered there was a connection
a physical connection
something she’d never felt before

and love this time
the compassionate kind
true enough to wait
as she left boring, old number 2

and now here they were
about to walk down the aisle
for the last time
she knows there will not be any others
because this time
she did it right.
