tagNon-Erotic Poetrya streetcar's called a trolley

a streetcar's called a trolley

a streetcar's called a trolley

the faded letters
flash past me
the bells and whistles
top the hill and

and I hear him
screaming in the night
echoing in the alleys

what neon menageries
trek the night alone
as I wait for the sound
of arc-spark electric
and the bells spells

he calls her
over and over
by starlight

from the hill
the bells announce
an arrival
and I can read
the faded letters now

this isn't Tennessee
and the streetcar's
called a trolley

and still he shouts her name
into the night
into the alleys
and a streetcar disappears
called desire
