i am losing it
my balance, at last
i understand, my father's fall
into the well of isolation
where echoes of lost opportunity
tease and torment

minuses stacking up, outweighing
presumed pluses, hacking away
at walls built to prevent
attacks from illogical reason
until a tumble in inevitable

reason has little to do with it
at this point, one has to consider
genetics, the curse of conception
an unwelcome inheritance
that keeps on giving to the end
