Dark rewrite of REO Speedwagon's Can't Fight This Feeling

I can't fight this addiction any longer
Cos I'm so afraid
So damn afraid to let this good feeling go
What started out as just a recreational hobby has now grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let these drugs go

I tell myself that it won't last forever
I say there is no reason for my fear
Yet I feel so insecure when we're not together
Me and the pills that give me
Give me those spine chilling thrills
I love them, but I hate them
Cos they sap me of my life's direction, they make everything so unclear

And even as I wonder, I'm keeping them in sight
So close
In reach of my trembling hands
They're my candles in the window on a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer now to suicide then I ever thought I might

And I can't fight this addiction anymore
I'm forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this sinking ship to the shore
And throw away the oars of my last hope, forever

'Cause I can't fight this addiction anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl begging and crying for more
Across this dirty apartment floor
Sell my body to the night like a whore
I'm so sorry, but I just can't fight this addiction anymore

My life has been a whirlwind ever since I first got hooked on the stuff
I've been running around in circles in my tortured mind
And it always seems that I'm following those pills, those damn pills
'Cause they take me to places that alone I'm afraid alone I'd never find
They're my candles in the window on a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer now to suicide then I ever thought I might

And I can't fight this addiction anymore
I'm forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this sinking ship to the shore
And throw away the oars of my last hope, forever

And I can't fight this addiction anymore
I'm forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this sinking ship to the shore
And throw away the oars of my last hope, forever
