The red apple sits on the brown desk.
The desk sits in the middle of the empty classroom.
The room is eerily quiet.

Memories of the past year flood her mind.
The young bright faces entering on a hot fall day.
The enjoyment of Halloween with the cutesy costumes.
The joy of celebrating Christmas with students who might not at home.

The flashbacks continue, like a music video.
The winter months where the cold made cheeks rosy.
The spring making everyone hyper and excited.

The stress is forgotten, the long hours forgotten, everything is forgotten.
For when the children run out the door for the last time before summer.
I miss my students and can’t wait for September.
