I cannot help but think that
had I known it then,
the little house that would become
a weight upon my neck
was really just a trap
to woo me to an end
I never thought about...
an end and a beginning...
vicious cycle repeated.

I cannot help but see that
had I known it then,
the happy children who would bring
new heartaches just for me
would show me mini versions of
a self I could not see...
a hope and then despair...
painful wisdom unloaded.

I cannot help but see that
had I known it then,
the flaming love that would keep
old hurts and fears always
full in front of me...
a cripple of the heart...
heartfelt emotion unleashed.

And yet...
I also see that,
had I known it then,
those dreams, that pain,
the heartache and the hope,
began a building fire in my soul...
for more, for better yesterdays...
passion's life unveiled.

Ay me

And you never can undo anything, and besides, you do it all over again...
