First Kiss

Jack a lad of years a dozen
Sarah a lass of bakers same

Met at camp at summer camp
Love was quick and down the lane

Found a log a mossy log
And sat to play the eternal game

Jack took her hand so warm it was
And promised love or the infernal flame

Sarah blushed so pink, coyly blushed
And agreed her love always the same

Jack leaned forward lips pursed soft
And pecked her cheek with love too tame

Again Sarah blushed, sweetly blushed
Murmured you don’t kiss like Bobby Dane

And alone trudged Jack back to camp
Broken hearted, Sarah to blame

And Ah! You ask wanting to know
Yes for years this kiss... Jack’s bane!

Authors note: unfortunately true!
