I can't take this anymore
The words
So quick to my lips
Fall on deaf ears

Why do we persist?
Fighting a battle that neither can win
We run in circles

I snap
You cry
I cry
You snap

On and on it goes
Until neither one remembers

Why are we fighting again?

Yet it's too late now
Harsh words
Fired so carelessly
Hit harder than intended

You maim me
I bite back
I shoot you
You slice back

On and on it goes
Until we hurt because we're hurting
Will it never end?

We're both too proud to let it

So we persist
Fighting a battle that neither can win
One we're both so desperate not to lose
Bitter tasting words turn toxic on my lips
For they poison me as much as you
And we're back to where we started
Running around in circles

I can't take this anymore
My words
OUR words
Cut more deeply than intended
Spreading their venom
Destroying nerves
Severing connections

They don't cut deeply enough

For isn't that our intention?
To hurt each other worse than we've been hurt?
Because we love each other
But we love ourselves
And we would rather hurt than be hurt

So we fight a battle that can't be won
And run around in circles

To what end?
Do we fight until there's nothing left?
Until we're both broken
Both bleeding and alone?

It's time to end this war
Throw up a white flag instead of barbed words
Time to admit war crimes and boundaries crossed
End the feud
Call a truce

Time to say
I'm sorry

And maybe the pain will ease
Maybe we can both be fixed

I really like

this poem. Its unfortunately very true and hits a nerve because of that, in a good way.

She tells me

that I can't love her and still hurt her like that. Says I would never hurt the people at work like that. I tell her that it is because I love her so much that I hurt her. She knows that, but wont admit it, as she hurts me. Well written, so true

Make love, not war

Don't think I could agree with you more. Life is too short to hurt people, especially the ones you love. It's hard, through the fog of war, to know how strongly your actions fall across murky boundaries. Fog also makes it hard to balance one's own expectations with those of others and those of reality, when we don't know what we're looking for, how do we know when we find it?
