I like my skin, even if it chaffs and rubs.

But,
I wish that I could live for one hour inside your skin.
See the world through lighter eyes and feel hair the color
Of sunlight or turned maples or rich brown dirt
That bends and dances
On shoulder that are clotheshorse broad
And straight with confidence that is born into long, strong bones.

I wish I could stand for five minutes in your shoes,
My yellow skin pink and lush with breasts and hip that hold up clothes,
And sway,
With a promise I would suddenly know how to make
In skin that fits.

I would be inconspicuous and spectacular in your skin.

I like my skin, even if it chaffs and rubs.

But,
I wish that you could live for one hour inside my skin.
See the world through eyes of a different size and shape
And feel hair that is black gone blue and cool like silk,
That shelters and slides
On shoulders that are narrow
And straight with an undefined fear that is born into long, thin bones.

I wish you could stand for five minutes
In the ghost of wooden shoes, your pink skin a different color,
Lost in clothes made for a body you will never have
And sway with uncertainty
Because your skin doesn't fit.

You would be both spectacle and unseen in my skin.

I absolutely love your poetry, particularly My Love Is A Gate... I first read them years ago, and I've posted them on Facebook as well. Take care, Jonathan :)

Potential, doesn't seem finished, I'd love to see where this can go.

Oh Yui!

This is a wonderful work that is plea and declaration at the same time. I love the honesty, the poignancy and the truth behind your words. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
