Linear Bounded Automata

Some Problems of Linear Bounded Automata

Father's Day, 2009

It wasn't close this time, thank God. Just pain,
though pain is bad enough. Some heparin
to thin his blood, some nitro so his breath

was eased. Pop in a couple stents—one vein,
one artery—then send him home again,
an old machine, whose parts are working less

and less well all the time, their warranty
now long expired. I welcomed him
back, anyway. It's how we live with Flesh.

And yet, my own machine cannot conceive

that death.
