Love is like
The magic of a baby’s breath as you hold her close
The lines of an old man as he sits sunning in the park
The joy in a child’s face smothered in ice cream & cake
The delicate beauty of a rose petal glistening with dew
The glory of the sun rising over & through the fog
The majesty of the stately redwood tree climbing to the sky
The awesome power of the thunder & lightning in a storm
The patience of a river that can carve a Grand Canyon
The sadness on the face of the puppy left behind
The waves curling on the shore, ever new, ever changing
The hurts we do to one another… why do we?
The kindnesses we share… why not more?
Love is like
You!!!
I would have taken out the intimate "YOU" from the end of the poem and invest in it in a whole separate poem.
The rest of the poem was great, equally spreading images; memories and feeling of objects or other beings all worthy of love. Here love is not simply a quality of relations but clearly an ontological quality of the universe. We get the sence that the author let us taste only a small sample of what he experiences all around him. From what he depicts we get a sense of of an open hearted; open eyed and open minded poet/author; better said - man of the world.
