Mary Cassatt at Home

Do you know of her?
Maybe you are not an Art buff?
She was a foremost woman painter
American Artist (1844-1926)
Check it out
Big Wiki article
She was an impressionist
Anyway, I knew who she was
We had a small etching of hers on the wall
Family heirloom
Aunt Sarah, the family matriarch,
         and a Pharmacist knew her
I was told it would pass to me
When I revisited it was gone
Where's the Cassatt?
My father had taken it to Sotheby's
Said he would get at least $50,000
"I thought it was mine"
"Fuck off!" dad said
I left the house
Returned 12 years later
My father was dead
Cassatt was on the wall
"I thought he sold it"
"They took it apart,"
      said my mother
"Turns out it is a fake,
A good fake, but a fake
If you want it take it"
All things come
      to those that wait

A nicely told tale

Love the soft sheen of irony and the wry humour. S.O.
