Click hereMy cat’s internal program has a glitch
that makes her tiny right paw twitch
an extra little something something
where my other cat does nothing
all cats are pretty much the same
watch them, you’ll see what I claim
they arch their backs and wipe their face
jump from objects, high in space
but my little calico kitty
has a tiny itty bitty
glitch that makes her twitch
but my life she does enrich
and her I would not switch
just because she has a flaw
in which she double pads her paw
I noticed it the first time I saw her
but when I pet her fur
and listened to her purr
I couldn’t pass by this sweet
calico kitten with twitchy feet
and so I watch her sleeping now
peaceful slumber upon her brow
she brings me joy and brings me mice
and despite her glitch, she is very nice
so if you do not judge a cat by it’s imperfections
she’ll give you all her kitty affections
and return your love in pure reflections
of love and acceptance and gratitude
along with (of course) kitty attitude.
James Whitcomb Riley used to write for an appreciative audience. It still has some room for improvement but is lovely. Dealing with the moral question of the imperfections in our pet, our lovers, our family and our society is a nice place for our poetry to focus. I would suggest reworking these two lines,"but my life she does enrich/ and her I would not switch".
I have a calico also who just walked in one day and has been here for years. You have painted a loving picture of your cat and of yourself!
