Only the Strongest Shop

Only the Strongest Shop (rondeau)

Only the strongest shop as bargain calls
Through discount stores and regional malls,
The multitudes trek the holidays
Past the Santa Clauses and reindeered sleighs,
The ice sculptures and frozen waterfalls,

Down corridors and crowded halls.
Amid the din, the noise and caterwauls
Through endless lines, screaming kids
Only the strongest shop.

Once outside snow and rain falls
While on the highways traffic stalls,
Full parking lots, endless driving delays
A fever rises from the malaise
Where lesser shopper’s energy palls
Only the strongest shop.
