Why did you have to go so soon?
Goodbyes were said but they weren't enough.
You acted with courage but it wasn't enough.
You wanted to live but it wasn't enough.
Husband and lover of my youth,
Proud father of my children.
Where did you go my darling?
Merged with the wind?
Molten with the earth?
Or liquid on the tide?
Where did you fly?
We need to know.
Never again to feel your arms around us.
Never again to feel your feet light upon the step.
Never again to feel the warmth of your smile,
And know that we were the most important treasures in your life.
When time grants us some certainty,
Then we may stop asking the questions.
But until that day comes,
We can only stand in your light,
Until it becomes grateful memory.
