She's Stubborn

She's stubborn he says,
not knowing what else
to say to kindly clarify
our truths. I say it doesn't

matter. Our reality lives
in spoken words, in flesh,
corporeal not contemplated
but consumed privately,
consummated with no one
needed to share the ways
this falling awakened
like a poem oft read
and slowly understood

that ours was not
a blind leap over the ledge
of reason where fingers slip
from dreams that will not be,
but built with waking days
of trust and deed and sighing
nights that mouthed
no one else need know
the breadth and depth
of hearts--

how grand they are
and how close
the space we've made
for two.
