The Fallen Ramparts

The Trumpets of Jericho are

not but a whisper

upon the sweetness of her serenade.

And in that moment of calling,

the walls that I thought I was

scaling turned out to be mine alone.

For in her soft reply,

my defenses fell willingly

exposing the citadel I held so dear.

The horns have dimmed,

leaving the steady

drumbeat of my own heart,

open to her in my giving

of unconditional surrender.
