The ice lady

byKrenna Smart©

Eyes as hard as the diamonds she covets
But colder

I shiver whenever she turns
Those doe brown eyes my way

A frosty glance from her arched brow
Is the deep six
Cold as death

Try to touch her you get freezer burn

Eyes are the windows to the soul
And hers are bleak orbs of ice

Proud she is of her stature
Unconcerned that her cool countenance
Chills you out with a cutting sneer
Insulated she is in her solitude

She wasn’t always like this

Once she had passion and laughter
Music and magic

Her temper was her downfall
Her universe exploded
When ‘ere wrath she felt

And she closed it off
A little bit at a time

She chose her path

There you go – keep it as cool as you can
Love heated her loins
She squelched it
Laughter lighted the darkness
She stilled it with icy distain
And gave music
which once guided her with smiles
And sunshine

The cold shoulder
Friendships cooled
And became means to an end
She chilled out her mate
Who turned elsewhere for warmth

To the bottle he fled
Warming his hands upon a brandy
Before entering the ice lady’s bower
For he, poor fool, still loved her

Until he slipped on a treacherous icy patch
And lost his footing
All that remained was a chilly,
Living corpse
For her to feign fondness toward

The spirit she once so loved
Fled to warmer climes

Her children, sadly, never had a chance
For they were merely ice statues
Children of snow
Shadows of their dame
Who forged them from
An icy pact with the devil

Make them pretty, Make them smart,
Make them love me she demanded

Ah that, my lady is on your head
The devil said with a smile
Knowing now her true heart’s desire.
Which was nothing but ashes in the wind
