Is full of strife
This you know is right
You must marry it just like a wife
And just like her, it can cut you like a knife
But write we must all despite
It’s the stare of the page—pure white
We try to fill it with all her might
While are sanity we try and hold tight
Staring at PC screens dreaming for that next gigabyte
Reading through it again and again so its point we won’t overwrite
It’s enough to cause a crisis of midlife
We know it’s on its way, almost there, just not quite
For that special word we put on the old searchlights
Burning the oil ‘til well past midnight
Even when others invade, we try to be polite
If only they realized how long it took for my thoughts to reunite
Perhaps they’d stay out of sight
At least just for tonight
As I write
—And write
—And write
Straight through ‘til daylight
Trying not to forget the copyright
Lord knows that’d be a terrible oversight
Tired—weary—writer’s life
The words and ideas are infinite
Gnawing into your brain like a parasite
Yet still we write
—And write
—And write
After all young sweet page of lily-white
I did take for life—
As my one true wife
Ahhh…the weary writer’s life—
Full of strife
You know that’s right!
Well said ~ the writer's strife and writer's block
With blank page staring at you all through the night.
