Strophe:
First up at the barre,
that dance king, Lyotard:
Jean-François Lyotard
writes essays really really hard
to read. And they're in French, too!
They're not hardly proper reading while you're whizzing in the loo.
Friends Lyotard et Baudrillard
went shopping for a thought, a shard
of wisdom. Once found, they discard-
ed it and went back to slinging lard.
Canon to right of them
Canon to left of them
Cannon in front of them.
Bosquet a dit, "C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le verre!"
Ahh,
Never mind. On to leggy belle Hélène:
Hélène Cixous
Sometimes seeks, sues phalli much too
hard, in bodies binged and purgèd.
No shit? Medusa's hair is turgid?!
Was hers the mace that lunch'd a thousand slips
and burnt the topless towers of Idiom?
Sweet Helen, make me immortal with a kiss.
I'd smoosh your tush to get this publishèd.
Antistrophe:
Ici, je presente deux jeu de mots,
pour elle et astre poussiéreux.
Pas aussi bon que Arthur Rimbaud,
malheureusement. Où est de l'eau?
Excusez-moi et pardonnez.
Je suis toujours assoiffé.
Continue what you're doing, eh?
Étanchez ma soif, s'il vous plaît.
Oy vey! But c'est mauvais français!
And here I say merci beaucoup,
you infinitely clever two.
Calliope:
And of doggerel, enfin,
think. Où est le chien?
At least, we hope,
not etherised upon a table,
becoming neither la nor le.
This is not a gold endor-
phin nor a slivered glass.
Get up off your ass
and write, Dumbelbore.
Get buzzy, pleas.
Morel:
The French sait everything.
Tristan, uninsult, vile edam rose.
I loved these poems. They were a puzzle - amusing throughout, with little bits of this and that to recognize and appreciate in both languages.
Le chien nage dans l'eau si froid
et la biche courses loin
pourquoi fait une chasse à chien
quand les mots sont changés
et le chien n'est ni elle ni lui
fits you so damned well! I enjoyed it immensely, despite your initial dismissal of any significance!
Fly
I feel that the tempo and concept of the poem were well executed, however the tone needed consistency. It was British, and American, and French,...and needed to be spoken, IMHO, with one voice consistently throughout. Great read, though.
wtf! I could see your grin as you wrote this and I dont even know what you look like
I am sure I missed a lot in this poem but the feel and tone and most came right through. you old dog!
